the Silva Bed

A calm interpretation of minimalist forms brought together with traditional joinery, the Silva Bed is a fully handmade celebration of the region's timber species, through careful and sensitive craftsmanship. The subtly curving headboard perches upon a forest of hand-tapered spindles, a headboard that frames the place where Quality itself rests. The flagship piece in a line of furniture made from the abundance of British Columbia's coastal woodlands, Silva Bed is available in premium grade hemlock, fir, cedar, cypress, or spruce. The Silva Bed employs pure joinery, wedged in the Japanese style (allowing for dis- and re-assembly), and requires no screws or other metal fasteners. Its surfaces are sheared with a plane iron, not abraded with gritty papers, producing a lustrous surface. It is made of local timbers generally regarded as humble, however, the bed proves that treating the highest quality of a common material with the highest quality of a common craft, yields a truly uncommon piece of workmanship.
