For Artists

COVID-19 Update for Artists

We continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and are developing contingency plans for various scenarios. We are exploring possibilities of an in-person socially distant Culture Crawl. We are also exploring digital opportunities and looking at the possibility that we may have to pivot to a partial online Crawl festival.

We will make a decision regarding this year’s Crawl festival before the regular refund deadline (August 31) so that registered artists have ample time to decide if they would like to participate. Before we make our decision, we will consult with building owners, artists and others as required. You can expect a decision regarding the shape of this year’s festival by the beginning of August.

It is important to us to keep both our artists and the Crawl profiled in the public limelight and not lose what we have spent 24 years building.  We believe that although the Crawl might be different this year, it is vital in both the short and long term for artists to maintain a presence so that the momentum that you have gained with your art and audiences remain current and on people’s mind. We hope you share this perspective and join us for this year’s festival.

In the event that we cannot go ahead with the festival, artists will be offered the option of a refund or to donate their fee and receive a tax receipt.

Eligibility Criteria

The Eastside Culture Crawl festival is focused exclusively on professional artists in their own studios, producing unique works of art. The Selection Committee is guided by standards of professionalism similar to, for example, Canadian Artist Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC), the Canada Council, and the Craft Council of British Columbia (CCBC).

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS about whether you are eligible to participate in the Culture Crawl, please contact the Eastside Culture Crawl administration. We will be happy to review the intent of the Crawl festival, and determine if you are eligible. If necessary, we will consult your artistic peers who are Crawl eligible to review your particular situation.

  1. To be a participating artist in the Eastside Culture Crawl your studio must be within our boundaries - Columbia Street to Victoria Drive & First Ave to the waterfront.
  2. You may not sublet or rent out your studio to others during Crawl hours.  The Eastside Culture Crawl is a public studio visit with artists in their own workspace.
  3. Your artwork must be one of a kind and created by you. Mass produced work is ineligible. Consumable, disposable, and perishable items (such as food manufacturers, culinary arts, plants, candles, soap, etc.) are ineligible.
  4. You can only promote and sell work you have created.
  5. Each artist registers individually regardless of whether the work is a collaboration, collective etc. If you are operating under a business name and/or collective with more then one artist, each artist must register.
  6. The Eastside Culture Crawl does not allow you to serve alcohol during Crawl hours.
  7. You must be open during all the Crawl hours and be present in your studio for the full 4 days of the festival.
  8. You must be 18 years of age and over
  9. If your studio is in a residential apartment building you must obtain permission from the building manager.  If you do not have a separate/private entrance you must have someone at the door to let people in and walk them to your studio.
  10. See the Artists Agreement for further details and responsibilities.  This must be read and agreed to before you can register for the Eastside Culture Crawl.
