Rosemary Burd combines photography with embroidery, and embroidery with found objects to create her art. She explores colour and texture in her stitched portals, created with layers of reverse applique, and in her textile bricolages, constructed from found objects and repurposed fabrics. In her photo-based work, Rosemary uses the rapid movement of her iPhone to capture sunlight streaming though trees or moonlight reflected on water, creating photographs that border on abstraction. She then stitches on her photographs with lustrous silk thread to amplify the blurred interplay of movement, light and colour.
Rosemary has exhibited across Canada, and has been published in Photo Ed magazine (digital edition), The Hand magazine, and Surface Design Association’s annual Exhibition in Print. Her first solo show is scheduled for the summer of 2026.
