Camila Pabón begins by observing everyday objects and structures to explore the persistent fabric that composes them. She portrays their forms, repetitive movements, and continuous bending and unfolding. Her work uses a detailed approach to surfaces that reveal a kaleidoscopic nature: the closer the gaze, the more new forms and overlaps emerge. This approach symbolizes her search for an elusive truth, a sustained, unceasing inquiry that neither culminates nor satisfies. Her work results from an exercise in geometric abstraction. Contingent objects from material reality transform into overlapping planes in multiple directions. The colours and textures she studies often connect to her home country, Colombia. The vibrant colours of its tropical fauna and flora, combined with a blend of indigenous, African, and European traditions, reveal her aesthetic and cultural heritage. By incorporating colours from her cultural landscape and combining them with geometric abstraction, her work bridges tropical sensitivity and the structures and order she associates with her current residence in Canada. Camila's work is a continuous reflection on the fundamental elements of geometry and abstraction—line, plane, and overlap—infused with nostalgia as it encapsulates her personal history and explorations.
