Goos Woodworking
German carpenter/woodworker based in East Vancouver.
Building unique furniture has always been a project I had in the back of my mind. Having family ties to Denmark and Sweden, I've always been fascinated by Scandinavian furniture design, especially Hans Wegener and the woven seat. In Vancouver, I work for a company that renovates heritage homes in our community. Here, I came across wood that was sometimes over a hundred years old. This was the perfect opportunity for me to put my idea into action. This wood has seen and heard so many stories and has been part of our community for so long. I like the idea of reusing this special material and making furniture out of it that can be used for decades and passed down to the next generations. The combination of design, woodworking knowledge and the technique of weaving the seat out of Danish paper cord is a perfect combination of my cultural heritage, skills and desire to produce something sustainable in this fast-paced world.
I will show handmade seating furniture. With a focus on benches and chairs. Furniture made of reclaimed wood and a woven seat made of danish paper cord.
