Home / Culture Crawl & Reconciliation
Culture Crawl acknowledges and gives thanks to the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations for their ongoing stewardship of the unceded and occupied lands on which our work takes place.
As an organization founded and largely led by settlers, we recognize our responsibility to seek out and nurture authentic relationships with Indigenous communities, and to allow this dialogue to continually shape our practices. We are committed to collaborating with and supporting Indigenous artists in meaningful ways.
One step in this commitment is our policy of offering free Artist and Community Affiliate registration to Indigenous artists, as well as to Indigenous-run and Indigenous-serving organizations. This approach is guided by the spirit of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which affirms the rights of Indigenous peoples to maintain, control, protect, and develop their cultural heritage and traditional cultural expressions.
Indigenous peoples have been creating art within the lands now encompassed by the Culture Crawl since time immemorial, and continue to shape the cultural vitality of these territories today. Our registration policy is one way we seek to honour this enduring relationship, demonstrate recognition and respect through action, and uphold our organizational values of access, equity, and community.
We remain committed to listening, learning, and evolving these practices in collaboration with Indigenous partners.
