Touching Sound
Touching Sound is a new interactive installation art company focused on allowing people of all abilities and backgrounds to express themselves through music. The pieces we create are fully immersive environments. They foster exploration of physical and acoustic spaces and discovery of one's own capacity for creative expression.
On display for the Culture Crawl is The Machine, an immersive, interactive audio-visual creation device. Within an alternate reality, surrounded by chrome walls, are knobs and switches that control music, visuals and lights and allow for exploration and discovery. There are also less obvious controls embedded in the room that open up new musical spaces. Every time someone uses the Machine, a new composition is created.
Touching Sound was founded by Gabe Boothroyd in 2024. He is a lifelong musician and founding member of Five Alarm Funk, a band that has relentlessly toured North America for over 15 years and earned two Juno nominations. In creating interactive art, his aim is to break down the divide between artist and art consumer. Everyone who interacts with interactive art is a collaborator in creating unique musical and visual moments.
