Patrick Christie is an Industrial Designer, Craftsman, and Artist who has spent nearly a decade working through Daly Co., building projects for artists, architects, and clients across British Columbia. Encouraged early on to solve problems through making and repurposing, he developed a practice rooted in curiosity, resourcefulness, and a deep respect for materials. Over the years, his art began to emerge directly from the scraps and offcuts of his design work, supported by a growing collection of regional wood species. Time spent in shops and mills across the province sharpened his interest in the by-products of production—material often treated as waste—and revealed the creative potential held within these overlooked fragments.

Patrick’s artwork is guided by the natural characteristics of wood—its grain, colour, irregularities, and the slow, annual growth rings that store each tree’s history. Using simple tools and intuitive making, he composes forms that are both playful and grounded, influenced by childhood fascinations with science fiction, transforming machines, and team-based mythologies from comics and television. His design practice is often highly technical and engineered, whereas his artwork embraces imagination, colour, and the lively imperfections of the material itself.

As a community organizer with TWIG, a wood-innovation network he helped grow in BC, Patrick has gained first-hand insight into the shifting landscape of forestry and fabrication. This community lens informs his research into regional species, processes, and innovation, shaping a visual language that emerges directly from his own material investigations.

Most recently, Patrick launched The Annum, a new space dedicated to exploring time-based materials and time-based media. This next chapter extends his long-standing interest in creating platforms for interdisciplinary work that connects craft and technology.
