Niki Singleton
Niki Singleton is a Canadian expressive and narrative painter and illustrator based in Vancouver CA. She has undertaken residencies at Lanchonete in Sao Paulo, Brazil, La General en Manufacture in Paris, France, Hotel Maria Kappel in the Netherlands and Triangle in Brooklyn, New York. Exhibitions include the Brooklyn Museum, the Whitney Biennial, Betty Campbell Gallery, Spring/Break Art Show-New York City, Paul Thiebaud Gallery-San Francisco, Holocaust Museum-Texas, Imagine IC-Amsterdam and Pendulum Gallery and The Culch gallery-Vancouver. Her art has been featured in publications such as Wowwart Magazine, Hudson Art Review, Hyperallergic, Forbes, Queer City Journal, ARTFUSE, Creative Time Reports. Singleton's work is rooted in cultural histories and mythologies, with a focus on queer and female/feminist identity and culture. Her practice is an exercise in provocative storytelling, with a focus on highlighting the stark contradictions and intersecting inequities that govern our lives. She combines traditional and nontraditional media and juxtaposes disparate artistic and historical references in the service of richly layered narratives.
