Janet Mader is a sculptor working primarily in steel with assemblage elements. Trained as a Sculptor at the Alberta University of the Arts, (Calgary, graduated 2008) and as a Scenic Designer at the National Theatre School of Canada, Janet's artistic path was disrupted when a brain injury from a motor vehicle accident took away her ability to visualize in three dimensions. Her current body of work is the culmination of years of work to fully regain that capacity. She presently works as a Practical Special Effects Person in the film and television in Vancouver, and has spearheaded the build-out of the new welding shop at the Vancouver Hack Space community workshop, where she teaches an introductory course to hobbyist and art welding.
