EVA B. | CERAMICS
Eva Breternitz is a Vancouver-based mixed-media artist known for her unique ceramics.
Born and raised in Germany, it’s not surprising she became interested in ceramics having grown up in a family full of ceramicists and living in a house full of sculpture and pottery. Her great grandfather Otto Lindig, a master potter, was a particular inspiration as he had once led the Bauhaus Ceramics Department and they had many of his works and catalogues in their home. Eva’s ceramics fuse functionality with quiet beauty and the charm of perfect imperfection, a practice that gained deeper meaning and joy after she became a mother.
She began her artistic journey in Falmouth, England studying Art & Design before earning an Honours Degree in Mixed Media at Liverpool John Moores University. During this time she was focused on sculpture and installation work using a variety of media. She also found a love for etching which informed her painting and drawing style. Following graduation, she moved to London where she was able to soak up the atmosphere of this thriving city exhibiting and continuing her studies.
Upon moving to Vancouver, Eva continued her artistic practice while pursuing various careers in the arts and the film industry as well as in the social services field. She feels fortunate to be able to balance her time between family, her studio and her work at BrainBoost Education - a small educational services company where she fosters personalized learning experiences
Eva takes great pleasure in the creative process, saying - "I love diving into the creative process—getting my hands messy, shaping something from nothing, and finding a quiet joy in creating pieces that may bring happiness to someone, somewhere."
