Serena Chu is a visual artist known for her life-size colouring murals, contemporary ceramics, and community-focused art workshops.
Originally from Toronto, she earned her BFA in Mural Painting and Installation Sculpture from York University and now works out of her private studio in Chinatown. Her studio doubles as a creative hub—supporting local artists, providing inclusive spaces for students, and maintaining accessible art studios for the community.
Her ceramic practice explores contrast—black and white, smooth and textured, glossy and matte. Beginning with her Geometric Mountain series, Serena has expanded into bold, one-of-a-kind tableware that experiments with sculptural forms and layered colour. Beyond clay, she continues to explore new mediums, most recently stained glass, while drawing on her extensive background in fibre arts, resin, jewellery, and more.
Serena’s large-scale colouring murals are custom-designed to blend branding, community engagement, and storytelling. They invite collaboration, spark joy, and transform public spaces into shared creative experiences.
Teaching remains at the heart of her practice. She creates inclusive, welcoming spaces where participants of all backgrounds can explore creativity together—with plenty of laughter and storytelling along the way. Proceeds from donated art supplies go directly toward senior art programming, a cornerstone of her community outreach.
Alongside her art, Serena is a trained graphic and web designer. In 2024, she opened a new Chinatown shop featuring handmade artists work while offering gently used art supplies rescued from landfills.
