Jack of All Trades and King of The Ring, Gill Benzion is a jeweler, woodworker, nonprofit director, volunteer bike mechanic, ice skating instructor, writer, and skydiver staying busy in East Van. Gill makes bentwood rings via his alter ego, Ebeniste Wood Rings (www.ebenistewoodrings.com), and raises funds for mental health initiatives through his nonprofit, Heavy Metal Rings (www.heavymetalrings.org), but still makes time for fun production and bespoke pieces made of wood, metals, meteorites, and more.
Born in Montreal, Gill explored all the world had to offer through studies in electrical engineering, business, music, personal training, cabinetmaking, and design, not to mention extensive travel, van living, and a whole lot of skydiving in between. Along the way, Gill fell in love with woodworking, particularly small-scale projects. In 2008 Gill established his artistic practice and never looked back. In 2018 Gill decided to try something new at twice the cost of rent (but half the price of sushi!) and moved to the unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, often referred to as Vancouver. He's never felt more at home.
