Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting

Doherty, Dorothy

About the artist
I see the world as an enormous source of ideas and inspiration. I am interested in how the world works, how humans interact, how our wilderness is shrinking with the growth of cities, and the resulting fallout of these conditions. I feel at ease with most media, and continue to explore new ways to develop artistic form. I paint, draw, sculpt, and make prints and ceramics. It is important for me to honour the materials I work with, reveal my process, and create artwork that stimulates the imagination and moves the soul. I exhibit regularly in group and solo shows, paint at Portside Studios in Vancouver, and make ceramics at the Shadbolt Art Centre in Burnaby, BC. I am interested in the environment and how human activity affects the planet. Born in Vancouver, raised in Burnaby, lived in London England for 2 years between studies at VSA (now Emily Carr). Spent 20 years in various parts of BC, mainly Williams Lake and Victoria. Studied at UVic (MA Art History) and SFU (PDP). Late entry into teaching as art specialist in North Van SD#44, attended CapilanoU in Studio Arts after retirement to upgrade my skills and discover where I fit into the current art scene.

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.
