About the artistTextile artist and surface designer, Exhibit Designer, Public Art Installations, Retired BC Architect, I studied at UBC, UO, U Sask, Saskatoon, Fine Arts Studio, Figure Drawing studios and workshops in Natural Dye Technology and Textile surface design. Continuous Learning the key. I spent a wonderful term in Japan as an architecture student which strongly influences my work. Had a studio in Istanbul 2002 to 2012 Making soft Furniture from Home Weavers (not commercial) production, and since 2009, Kimono concept Jackets with collected exotic textiles. in my Vancouver studios, I've returned to my first love: making art. Drawing, Painting, and exploring multi media. This year, 2018, I spent time contemplating the stumps of the Great Trees of TSLEIL-WAUTUTH Park land on the road to Deep Cove from North Vancouver. I saw them as Headstones of the Forest, reminders of the tall timber that built the heavy timber structures to serve the "Newly Arrived"people in the region. On unceded land with no benefit to the original inhabitants except maybe jobs, the Great Trees deserve recognition for their economic contribution and enduring nurturing of bio-diversity. Thinking about a worthy project, I have created a suite of 4 ink paintings to illustrate the stories of 4 stumps, called nurse stumps with new trees growing out of the old stump and one almost disappeared, the one I call the Memorial Stump that tells it's own story. I see my recent work as place based, icons from my pathway.
