Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting
About the artistAn Israeli native, Batsheva (“Shevy”) Levy began her art career in 1975, while attending university for her mathematics degree. While still living in Israel, Shevy met and studied with master artists Moshe Gershoni and Raffi Lavie. Both are prominent in the art of the human form and significantly influenced Shevy's work. Her art employs a large variety of media including oil, acrylic, and pastel. Among her favorite subjects are portraits and landscapes. In 1993 Shevy immigrated to Canada where she very quickly associated with the Vancouver art community. She studied at Emily Carr College, and has continued to collaborate with a group of fellow artists who have inspired her steady growth. Shevy’s work has been acquired by a number of private collectors in Israel, Europe and Canada. Artist’s statement I believe in simplicity. I paint subjects that hold my interest. I strive to employ a pallet and brushwork to create line, motion and mood that impart my vision. I hope to go beyond realism to a new expression of images that emphasize light, colour, form, and texture.
