About the artistMy work is woven with story fragments taken from everyday life. The stitching and hand hooking techniques I use have a grounding effect as I engage in the making of the work. I use discarded clothing, new woolens, and bits and pieces of cloth that come my way from friends and relatives, it is the limitations of these materials and techniques that inspire me to see how far I can push the boundaries of this craft within the framework of my contemporary art practice. In 2016 I was nominated for the Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award in Craft & Design and the Carter Wosk 12th Annual British Columbia Creative Achievement Award for Applied Art & Design. I was awarded the Surface Design Association Award for Excellence. This coming summer the Seymour Art Gallery in Deep Cove will feature my hand hooked art along with fellow artist Katherine Soucie in a two-person exhibition titled Regeneratus.
