About the artistFor Canadian artist Maryan Cerina, an appreciation and love of the natural world began as a child while growing up in the temperate rainforests of coastal British Columbia. Sunlight streaming through the branches of rain-soaked trees, brightening up the hanging moss or lighting up a forest path on a summer’s day are typical images of Maryan’s early memories. Her fascination with moments of beauty, ordinary and extraordinary, was heightened by extensive travel throughout Canada, Europe and Asia as an adult. Maryan’s paintings have come to reflect not only her love of the natural world, but also her journey into spirit. Painting in oil, acrylic, watercolour and batik, Maryan Cerina’s art works range from realistic representations of nature to whimsical, expressive paintings that capture the spirit of the moment. Personalized house portraits are painted on commission. Primarily a self-taught artist, Maryan studied painting under the tutelage of Iranian artist Russel Fadavi while living in Bangkok, Thailand from 1999-2012, and at three universities in Vancouver, including Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Maryan Cerina now practices her art from her studio at the William Clark Studios in East Vancouver. She hopes to inspire others through her her art work and by teaching artists young and old and leading workshops in creative self-expression through her Vancouver Expressive Arts Meetup.
