About the artistLouise Francis-Smith born and raised in New Zealand, moved to Strathcona in 1980. Artist documentarian, her content an urban social narrative includes streetscapes, buildings, interiors and people. The areas she photographs hold history and are in transition. "I have always been drawn to those photographers who used the street as stage, looked below the surface and captured honesty and beauty in the real world. What I love about 'old' Strathcona, Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside is that these areas were not curated or stylized. You observe layers of complexity, capture contradiction and can make poetry out of the commonplace simple things'.
