Drawing, Mixed Media, Photography

Savic, Lena

About the artist
In my studio practice I am focused on formal aspects of art. My interests are diverse, yet throughout all my work in photography, mixed media, painting, drawing and earlier ceramics, I was consistently drawn to the texture. I am also interested in reframing different forms in nature and searching for the rhythm in architecture. When structuring my work I rely heavily on formalism, but the use of media is more often than not experimental. I studied Art History at BU, Fine Arts at Langara College and ECUAD, as well as on my travels to UK, US, Netherland, Italy, Greece, Russia, Austria, Spain, Cuba... Before moving to Canada I was running an art gallery, writing, facilitating and curating exhibitions. Here, in Vancouver, I am involved as a volunteer, artist in residence, community art-project leader and instructor in various art programs and events for children and adults for over 15 years. Work with a public, other artists or my students is engaging and collaborative. In 2015 I took the part in artist residency in Guardia Sanframondi, Italy. In 2016 I led cross generational workshops in Cuba, for Barrio Habana org. My work can be found in public and private collections.
