About the artist
“Altered States” Current Series “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern.” William Blake - My latest works reflect a quest to see experience from altered perspectives. Greater awareness, understanding and compassion arise for others. I ponder ancient paths taken by our native peoples, our pioneering ancestors, and civilizations unfamiliar to my own. Living in the present from this vantage point, fills me with a sense of responsibility, but also colours my world with vibrant possibilities. Maintaining a sense of fluidity is essential to my work. I love to work out of the conventional bounds, break the rules, and toy with visual ambiguities. Imagery in my work is often inspired by the natural world, sometimes juxtaposed with man-made structures. Almost 20 years of teaching, in senior Drama, Special Needs and English, have laid a foundation for working in the moment, improvising and seizing the intuitive. Courses taken at Emily Carr University of Art and Design have been inspirational. My work is exhibited locally and internationally.
