Barnes, Elizabeth

About the artist
Looking back 70,000 years to abstract marks found on cave walls, the persistence of painting reveals our long visual history, one rich with paradox and wisdom. In the painted world, space, time, form, and energy give way to networks of human interaction. With each painting I create a set of rules to guide me through the process. Paint is matter and colour is energy. By inflicting my human desire for control, I work in tangent with the material properties of the paint. As the material asserts its voice, I attempt to quiet my own. - Elizabeth Barnes
