About the artistClaire Sower is contemporary Canadian artist who, inspired by her artist father, began painting professionally in 2009. She had her first solo exhibition in 2013. In 2014 her work appeared on the cover of a national arts and culture magazine, The Bulletin, and 2015 saw her first exhibit in New York. This spring, she has received commissions from Burt’s Bees and Wiley Press USA. Working in acrylics, using palette knives to sculpt the paint and build depth, Claire’s process is largely intuitive, allowing change in the demands of the composition to inform the final interpretation. Her work is instantly recognizable for its texture and layering of colour.
“I am inspired by colour and form. I want to engage the viewer by allowing them to fill in the details."
