About the artist
Cathy has been designing, making and selling handcrafted jewellery since 2012. She has an extensive background in visual and text communication, and taught graphic design for 12 years through BCIT and Emily Carr University. She learned glass beadmaking from Joanne Andrighetti over a period of three years, and is an active member of Terminal City Glass Co-op. My work is inspired by a combination of location, aesthetic, and practicality, and is designed to be worn everyday by women of the west coast. My Pebbles of the Shore collection combines glass beads that echo sea-worn pebbles with beautiful Argentium silver wire that is made with recycled silver. Pebbles are unfussy and elegant and in keeping with the pared-down approach to fashion here on the west coast. Pebbles add a colourful accent to a neutral wardrobe In practical terms, my designs are lightweight, balanced, and easy to wear all day long. The long tails of my handmade earwires keep earrings in place while taking coats and scarves off and on. I design and make each earring by hand: I make the glass beads and etch them to create the soft, matte surface. I make each earwire by hand, using Argentium sterling silver wire, which is 93.5% fine silver.
