Mixed Media, Painting, Printmaking
About the artistAndrea Hooge is a Vancouver-based painter and illustrator. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and an extended minor in Visual Arts from the University of the Fraser Valley. While many of her painted works are on wood or hardboard panel, she also creates wood and scratchboard cutouts that have been made to stand alone or to overlap and create multi-layered pieces. Her work can be described as cute and sometimes creepy, and is inspired by the nostalgia of vintage magazines and children's books. She draws from her childhood interpretations and understandings of the world around her. Much of Andrea’s work is figurative, and includes images of animals, dolls, and babies, mixed in with an array of objects that act as personal symbols. Andrea’s work has been exhibited in over 40 group shows, and she has held 4 solo exhibitions, titled "Dolly," "Scratch," "Menno Kitty," and "Easter Eggs" at Hot Art Wet City. She will be exhibiting her fifth solo show at Hot Art Wet City in February 2017.
